Continued discussion from Swarfblog: "Which machine tool builder from your experience has the best service?

What is more important for service: The machine tool builder or the distributor?"

The burden of service lies almost entirely on the distributor. The builder is irrelevant in this question as they are not your local face-to-face representative in most cases.

You can buy a Chevy automobile from a number of dealers. Some may have good service departments and others may be stinko...machine tools are not much different.

I've had very positive experiences with HAAS, both with the builder and the distributor. The dealer prices are fair and they stock a lot of parts, the tech shows up in a day or two and the problem is fixed usually the same day. The HAAS factory has a customer advocate. The factory covered an expensive part (Vector Drive)100% that was well out of warranty.

Being a machine tool distributor myself. The burden of after sale service and warranty is directly on the distributor. The key for each distributor is representating products that are extremely high quality that have a history of little or no mechanical/electrical problems and having good relationships within the manufacturers directly, for additional support. That being said, all machine tools need service due to the harsh environments that most are submerged in. Same day fixes are now commonplace as well as the 24hr response period. We have sold and serviced a few lines now and ROMI Machine Tools out of Erlanger, KY has some of the best manufacturer represented service.
