We have a very fussy customer who wants to inspect the screw machines that his parts are being made on. The machines are filthy with oil and compacted chips, and we are worried that he may freak out when he sees the equipment. How can we clean the machine without disrupting our plant? I’ve heard dry ice blasting can be effective and relatively clean.

We have tried this in the past trying to clean EDM machines and their tanks. It did not give us the results we were expecting. It could not get all of the dirt off the machine. The technology may have improved and may be worth a try? sorry I do not have more information as this was a few years ago.

Wow, I've never heard of such a fussy customer. Usually people just go full on clean room manufacturing when there's that kind of a need. What type of part is this that it demands such cleanliness?

Dry-Ice Blaster:My company has purchased one of these machines and it has worked great for us. We have kept the machines running with minimal shutdown for operator. We blast the machine and do a little cleaning with degreaser and rag and put a fresh coat of paint on. The thing to be carefull of is lube lines and plastic, it needs to warm back up before touching it because they get brittle.
